The Camino makes you question the life you left

The Camino has a way of making you question the life you left behind.

Not dramatically. Not in some sudden revelation on a hilltop. It happens gradually, somewhere between day five and day ten, when the rhythm of walking has replaced the rhythm of your normal life and you realise you don't miss it the way you expected to.

The meetings that felt urgent. The inbox that needed constant attention. The low-level stress that had become so familiar you stopped noticing it. Out here, none of it exists. And the strange thing isn't that you feel free — it's that you feel fine. Better than fine.

Pilgrims start asking questions they'd been avoiding. Not because the Camino forces anything, but because walking 25 kilometres with nothing but your thoughts creates a kind of honest accounting that ordinary life makes it easy to skip.

Some people come back and change nothing. The Camino gave them rest, perspective, a good story. That's enough. Others come back and change everything — jobs, cities, relationships, priorities. The walk showed them something they couldn't unsee.

Most land somewhere in between. They return to the same life, but they carry it differently.
