Done the Francés? The Portugués is calling.

The Camino Francés gets all the attention. But talk to anyone who's walked the Portugués and they'll tell you something shifts.

Starting in Lisbon or Porto, the Portuguese route is quieter, greener, and in many ways more intimate than its famous sibling. Fewer pilgrims on the path. More locals going about their day who greet you with genuine curiosity rather than tourist fatigue. Atlantic coastal stretches that feel nothing like the Spanish Meseta.

The Coastal Variant is particularly special — walking beside the ocean for days, salt air, fishing villages, tiled azulejo walls in every town. It's the same destination, a completely different journey.

Many returning pilgrims say the Portugués gave them something the Francés couldn't: solitude. Space to think without the steady stream of fellow walkers. The feeling of discovering something that hasn't been fully discovered yet.

Santiago is the same at the end. The road there is wonderfully different.
