The Meseta will bore you. Then transform you.

Everyone warns you about the Meseta. Nobody fully prepares you for it.

For five or six days, the Camino Frances crosses the central plateau of Spain — flat, dry, seemingly endless. No dramatic mountain views. No charming villages every few kilometres. Just wheat fields, sky, and the path stretching straight to the horizon.

A lot of pilgrims skip it. They take the bus from Burgos to León and don't look back. And honestly? You understand why.

But the ones who walk every step of it will tell you something different. When there's nothing to look at, you start looking inward. The Meseta doesn't entertain you — it makes you sit with yourself. Your thoughts slow down. Old questions come up. Sometimes answers do too.

It's the part of the Camino that separates the walk from the journey.
