The €12 pilgrim menu

€12. Three courses. The best meal of your day.

After 25 kilometres on your feet, the menú del peregrino hits differently.

Three courses, bread, wine or water, all for around €10–12. It's not fancy — usually a soup or salad, a meat or fish main, and flan or yogurt to finish. But after a full day of walking through wind and hills, it's the most satisfying meal you'll eat all year.

What makes it special isn't the food. It's the table. You sit down with whoever walked into the restaurant at the same time as you — a retired couple from Brazil, a solo walker from Japan, two friends from Ireland on their second Camino. Nobody planned this dinner. It just happened, the way everything on the Camino just happens.

The menú del peregrino is one of those small daily rituals that, in hindsight, you miss most when you're home. Not the wine. Not the flan. The table.

What was your favourite meal on the Camino — and who were you sitting with?
