Getting home is the hardest part
Getting home is the hardest part. Nobody prepares you for the week after the Camino.
You get home. People ask how it was. You say "amazing" because what else do you say. You shower, sleep in your own bed, eat a proper meal. And then — nothing. A strange flatness settles in that's hard to explain to anyone who hasn't walked.
On the Camino, life is simple. Wake up, walk, eat, sleep, repeat. Your only job is to put one foot in front of the other and get to the next town. There's a clarity to that which everyday life simply doesn't offer.
Back home, the noise rushes back in. The inbox, the commute, the small decisions that somehow feel enormous again. And you start wondering — was it the Camino that was different, or is it regular life that's the problem?
The post-Camino blues hit almost everyone. The good news: they usually mean you're ready to start planning the next one.
