Camino Inglés: a Compostela in under a week

There's a Camino you can complete in under a week. It starts at the sea, earns a full Compostela, and almost nobody talks about it.

The Camino Inglés — the English Way — gets its name from the medieval English and Irish pilgrims who sailed to Galicia rather than walk overland through France and Spain. They landed at the port of A Coruña or Ferrol, then walked the final stretch to Santiago on foot. The route they walked is still there, still waymarked, still beautiful.

From Ferrol it's 120km — about six days of walking. From A Coruña it's 75km, doable in four.

What makes the Inglés different isn't just its length. It passes through small Galician towns and coastal villages that feel genuinely off the tourist map. The landscape is green, hilly, and lush — classic Galicia, with stone granaries, eucalyptus forests, and the smell of the Atlantic never far away. Albergues exist but are fewer; you'll sometimes be one of a handful of pilgrims rather than part of a crowd.

It's ideal for first-timers who have one week and want the real experience without committing to a month. It's also perfect for people who've done the Francés and want something quieter and more intimate the second time around.
