The Spiritual Variant leaves the Camino Portugués Central at Pontevedra and returns to it at Padrón three days later, via the fishing village of Combarro, the monastery of Armenteira, the Ruta da Pedra e da Auga and a boat ride up the Ulla estuary — the only stretch of any Camino traditionally done by water, retracing the route by which the body of St James is said to have arrived in Galicia.
